Well-being in the Workplace

Good mental health is something we all have to work on.

As friends, colleagues and employers it is something we can all look out for among those around us.

In the modern workplace where we are all encouraged to bring our authentic selves to work, there is additional responsibility on employers to support the mental well-being of their people, no matter what their age.

Articles like this which help highlight the growing size of mental health challenges are always welcomed.

The article describes how Generation Z, those under 26 years old, are experiencing high levels of stress, anxiety, and burnout, with mental health support in the workplace being a top priority for them.

However, many line managers are unaware of the mental health guidelines introduced by the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

Social isolation due to the pandemic, housing insecurity, and the cost of living crisis are contributing to the mental health issues facing Generation Z.

Experts recommend that employers play a supportive role, with line managers recognizing signs of distress and having the appropriate resources to help, such as Employee Assistance Programmes or counselling services.

Additionally, Wellbeing Action Plans can serve as useful tools for line managers to support their employees' mental health needs.
